A Toast to Tap

In celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the Safe Drinking Water Act, local water utilities including DC Water joined together with the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, the EPA, and other enviornmental groups to throw a Toast to Tap. This event included local vendors from our community whose products depend on safe drinking water as well as a full water bar and live music. George Hawkins, a General Manager at DC Water, gave a shout out to TapIt, explaining how TapIt benefits local businesses as well as their patrons:

“The businesses like it- you might go in there and buy a burger. We like it – it’s actually revenue water. The environment likes it because we don’t have another plastic bottle to manage. And you’ll like it because it’s free!”

This event was a huge success, and could not have been done without the hard work put in by Nicole Condon of DC Water, American Water Works Association, COG, Clean Water Action, the Association of State Drinking Water Administrators, and regional water utilities including Fairfax Water, Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC), and Washington Aqueduct.
